In this article, he continues and explains the process often used to improve supply chain cost performance. Unlike hurried "knee jerk" attempts at cost reduction, an effective process requires a deliberate, disciplined approach.
Step 1: As Is First is an analysis of how the supply chain currently works, how well it is performing, what costs are incurred and the levels of service achieved. Measuring how well a supply chain works can be undertaken using customer surveys, competitive data, benchmarking, internal audits, cost metrics and analysis of the company's process documentation and performance evaluation system.
