Message To Press: Try Balance
It was a pleasure to read Walter Williams' balanced opinion in "A Humane War Gives "Atrocity' A New Meaning " (Viewpoint, May 13) regarding the alleged atrocities by Americans in Iraq. I am tired of reading the self-flagellating American press coverage in which apologies are repeatedly demanded and abuses repeatedly discussed.
The Arab press does a good job of addressing the mistreatment, yet we fail to publicize the torture, killing and abuse of the bodies of coalition victims in Iraqi hands. Nor do we sufficiently publicize the 500,000 bodies in mass graves, the victims of Saddam Hussein's torture.
I do not wish to imply that one misdeed justifies another, but balanced reporting would do much to level the playing field.
