Boston Scientific in $740 mil deal
The medical device maker agreed to acquire privately held Advanced Bionics to expand its presence in the implantable microelectronic medical devices market. Advanced Bionics has developed products for treating neurological disorders. The deal will reduce Boston Scientific's '04 EPS by 4 cents. Shares rose 3% to 45.60.
Medtronic, inventor go to court
The medical device maker is battling over rights to technology for spinal fusion implants. Orthopedic surgeon and inventor Gary Michelson claims the company paid him insufficient royalties and seeks $3 bil in damages. Medtronic sued the surgeon to gain full rights to the technology it acquired when it bought Sofamor Danek's spinal business in '99. Medtronic rose 2% to 48.85
