TOBACCO
Court orders BAT to turn in memo
The federal judge in the U.S. government's $280 bil racketeering case vs. big tobacco companies ordered a unit of British American Tobacco to turn over a document it's been fighting to withhold for 2 years. The Justice Department is trying to prove that tobacco firms mislead the public about the risks of tobacco smoking even after a landmark '98 pact with states. The memo allegedly urges that documents be disposed of in light of increasing litigation.
