Jun. 1--Efforts have been stepped up to educate the general public and businesses about the impacts of free trade area (FTA) agreements, with the imminent Thailand-Australia pact the first priority.

Narongchai Akrasanee, a former commerce minister, chairs a special committee to follow up on the impacts of a growing number of FTAs and to find adjustment plans for affected businesses. He has about 20 full-time staff from the Policy Research Institute under the Fiscal Policy Office to work with him.
