Jun. 1--The Finance Ministry and the Federation of Thai Industries yesterday agreed to jointly set up a fund to upgrade human resource and research and development in the manufacturing sector.

The ministry is also considering a more appropriate rate for corporate income tax to further enhance the country's competitiveness.

Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said the main objectives of the fund were to upgrade and increase the supply of industrial manpower, and invest more in research and development (R&D) in order to help local industries compete more effectively.
