2004 JUN 3 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- According to gastroenterologists in private practice in the Denver, Colorado area, women are less likely than men to seek colorectal cancer screening.
Colorectal cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, according to the American Cancer Society. About 40% of the women who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer will die of the disease.
"This statistic could be improved dramatically with timely colorectal screening through colonoscopy," states Korina R. Bersentes, MD, of Gastroenterology of the Rockies, a group practice of Board-certified gastroenterologists in north metro Denver and northern Colorado. "In my experience - and national statistics bear this out - women are not as conscientious about obtaining colorectal screening as they are about other health screenings; most wait until they are symptomatic before having a colonoscopy.
