J.D. Power has confirmed our suspicions that Hyundai quality has improved. Hyundai was the surprise of the J.D. Power initial quality ball this year, overtaking Toyota to place seventh in name- plate rankings. Lexus topped the list, followed by Cadillac, Jaguar, Honda, Buick and Mercury. In overall corporate quality rankings, Toyota was first, then Honda, Hyundai and BMW. All other car companies came in below the corporate average of 119 problems per 100 vehicles.
Cubist world
Among comments by Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn in his annual report for 2003 (including Infiniti going global starting in '05, yet another confirmation of Skyline GT-R to the States by '07) was this nugget: When the next Nissan Cube comes to market in '07, it will be sold globally, meaning the United States will get yet another boxy Japanese vehicle vying for lane space with Toyota's Scion xB and Honda's Element.
In Japan, the Cube, priced at about $16,000, is powered by a 1.4-liter 98-hp four. Four-wheel-drive versions get electric motor assist to the rear wheels.
