Mustangs matter more than ever
I love the GT-R (Cover Story, April 19). Congratulations to Ford for getting, literally, back on track with the 2005 Mustang. It's too bad that all of the Mustang's old playmates have been sent to the glue factory. Rest in peace, Camaro, Firebird, 'Cuda, Challenger and Javelin. Long live the King!

I'm not a Ford person, but I have to say that the GT-R Mustang looks like it's going fast just sitting still. The pictures remind me of the '65 and the boss 302. I wonder how many times GM has kicked itself for dropping the Camaro and Firebird.

I respect what the Mustang has done for American muscle cars in its 40 years. At the same time I find Ford's new GT-R concept to be an abomination. Not since The Fast and the Furious debuted has so much excess been applied to a car for no good measure. It looks like our friends in Dearborn raided a Pep Boys accessory bin. All these pseudo-speed parts create a confused design, part NASCAR, part Hot Wheels. The GT-R is cursed with the same scoops and bulges leading to nothing that has been a hallmark of the Mustang since the 1967's rear fender pseudo-scoops.
If I understand racing, the idea is that if it doesn't make the car faster, take it off.
