GRITZINGER: It might be the first out of the starting gate, but by summer the convertible comparisons will be inevitable: PT Cruiser, Mini or this. Some early conclusions. The PT is the most utilitarian, but that big sports bar takes getting used to. The Mini, with cool gadgetry like the rear tailgate, is good-looking top up or down. That brings us to the Beetle, which seems to fit somewhere in between. As a former Beetle owner who loved the go-kart feel of the old car, I think VW missed the mark by not keeping the New Beetle tight and true to the original. There's fun in here, but not enough to put it at the top of the list.

LUU: I'm impressed with the effort put into the interior. It uses much better plastics and is a big improvement over the Sonoma, but there are still some cheap details.
