2004 MAY 10 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- A new study reported in The Lancet suggests that sacral nerve stimulation significantly improves continence for people suffering from fecal incontinence.

Medtronic InterStim Therapy, which uses mild electrical pulses to stimulate sacral nerves associated with pelvic floor control, has been used since 1993 for thousands of patients with many common forms of bladder control.

The new study, however, demonstrated effectiveness for another group of patients with the inability to control bowel movements. Previous reports from single-center studies led the authors of the new study to collaborate with Medtronic and conduct a…
