The Politics Of Pensions
Ken Hoover has it right with regard to states misusing pension funds for political agendas in "Calpers Activism Hits Even Healthy Firms" (A1, Monday).
Some years back, Florida pension funds proposed purchasing several hundred million dollars of now-defunct Eastern Airlines to finance a major hub in the Miami International Airport to "provide jobs." Were it not for some very vocal retirees who sidetracked the plan, all would have been squandered.
