Byline: JAMES DETAR
Electro Scientific Industries, a maker of laser chip testing and repair gear, went into a dark hole a couple of years ago, but lately has emerged into daylight.
ESI last quarter posted its first profit in two years. That could be just the start. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call see rising earnings for the next five quarters.
Analysts are optimistic in part because of the company's new CEO, Nicholas Konidaris. He's a 25-year industry veteran and former president of Advantest America. Its parent, Japan's Advantest, is the No. 7 chip gear company in sales.
In a recent interview with IBD, he talked about his plans for ESI.
IBD: How are your prospects?
Konidaris: Very good. Analysts say the memory chip business will grow. And our industry tends to follow the memory chip business.
