MOUNT PLEASANT-A Florida-based resort builder is taking over the golf course at Patriots Point, the first step in a major waterfront development it is proposing for a nearby property that could include a mix of retail stores, restaurants, offices and a luxury hotel.

The Patriots Point Development Authority this week unanimously passed a resolution approving the transfer of the lease on the state-owned layout from Charleston Harbor Golf Partners to the Ginn Co., which said it is planning an extensive overhaul of the 18-hole property.

Terms were not disclosed.

The deal still must be approved by the state Budget and Control Board. One of the conditions of the lease transfer is …
