Deals boosts Ciena, Sycamore
Shares of Ciena rose 8% and Sycamore Networks surged 12% after they won contracts to help build a global Internet-centered network for U.S. defense and intelligence services. The Defense Information Systems Agency also awarded contracts to Juniper Networks, Sprint, Cisco and Qwest. But the contracts would have the most impact on Ciena and Sycamore, whose deals are worth about $100 mil and $50 mil, respectively.

Italy arrests 7 in Parmalat probe
Among those taken in for suspected fraud were 2 former Parmalat CFOs and the chairman of auditor Grant Thornton's Italian affiliate, sources said. The arrests widen the investigation into how Italy's biggest food company misappropriated over $10 bil. Its founder and former chair, Calisto Tanzi, has admitted to diverting $625 mil to his family.
