Nasdaq stocks closed lower for the fifth straight day Friday on lighter volume. The Nasdaq fell 2%, closing below its 200-day moving average for the first time in over a year. It was down 6% for the week. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 lost 2.1% Friday.
The Internet-Content group was one of the top losers among IBD's 197 industry groups. Yahoo sank 4.18, or 8%, to 50.53 on double normal turnover. Web search firm Google said Thursday it'll stop providing its technology to the Internet portal. Among other content firms, InfoSpace fell 2.71 to 32.91 on three times average trade.
American Power Conversion gapped down 4.42 to 18.77 on more than five times usual volume, closing below its 200-day moving average for the first time in 18 months. The maker of power protection gear for electronics earned 17 cents a share in the first quarter, up 13% from last year but 2 cents off views.
