Byline: DAVID ISAAC
A 4,750-pound tractor rolls across Scotland's famed Inverness Golf Club. The members in their tweeds and cleats faint away, unable to cope with the damage to their green.
Silly lads.
What they don't know is the rubber track undercarriage of that machine is designed by ASV, which makes equipment mainly used in construction and landscaping.
ASV's system is designed to distribute weight evenly through the tread. The firm's RC-50 Turf Edition All Surface Loader has such a minimal impact on the ground that a man on foot exerts twice as much ground pressure.
The result: Groundskeepers can groom a golf course without damaging the greens.
That's one of many advantages ASV's R-Series Posi-Track construction vehicles provide over their wheeled and even rubber-tracked competitors, analysts say.
