Consumer sentiment off in April
The University of Michigan's index of consumer sentiment eased to 94.2 from 95.8 in March, but firmed from a midmonth preliminary reading of 93.2. The gauge of current conditions slipped to 105 from 106.8, but rose from 104.1 at midmonth. The expectations index fell to 87.3 from 88.8 in March, but recovered from 86.2 in mid-April.
ECRI leading index rises in week
The Economic Cycle Research Institute's gauge of the U.S. economic outlook rose to 135.2 last week from 134.5 the prior week amid a drop in jobless claims and slight rise in mortgage applications. The index's annualized growth rate rose for the first time in six weeks, edging up to 9.5% from 9.4%.
