Doctors say Hispanics need early testing for HIV. (University of Arizona)

Physicians say Hispanics, like other minorities, tend to be diagnosed for AIDS at later stages in the deadly disease and that such patients could get additional years of life if diagnosed earlier.

"We can delay the decline of the immune system if we find you early," said Dr. Kevin Carmichael, a University of Arizona AIDS specialist.

Carmichael runs an early intervention program to try to find people who are infected with HIV but who do not yet show any symptoms.

"We can give you years of life. I encourage everyone to be tested," he said.
