Did you know that Earth Day, a day set aside to salute nature and reflect on what we can do to help the environment, is 34 years old today?
It began in 1970. Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes, an activist who helped organize Earth Day, are credited with the beginning of a yearly salute to the Earth.
Students at Keith Elementary in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District have been learning about environmental problems and solutions. Stacy Rovin's second-grade class sent the Yak some great letters about what they have learned about caring for our planet. Here's one letter from Aimee Atkinson and Jenna Randall.
