Blue-chip private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. has been cashing out of its portfolio companies at a torrid pace in 2004, collecting more than $3 billion.
Through late March, the New York-based firm had already made $3.3 billion through sales, and that was on top of the $3.2 billion KKR raised from a string of secondary stock sales in 2003. KKR showed no signs of slackening its pace as three of its portfolio companies -- Walter Industries Inc., Wincor Nixdorf International GmbH and KinderCare Learning Centers Inc. -- announced plans to provide KKR with more exits.
