Now that Sanjay Kumar -- the embattled chief executive and chairman of Computer Associates International -- is out, what comes next?

A search for a new CEO for the world's No. 4 software company, with sales last year of about $3 billion and 16,000 global employees.

The board likely will look inside and outside the firm for candidates, says CA spokesman Dan Kaferle. "We will identify and consider the best possible candidates," he said.

Kumar resigned from the company's two top posts under pressure on Wednesday. He'll stay on as chief software architect, a newly created position.
