Regarding William Norman Grigg's column "Reality Isn't Optional" (March 22, 2004 issue), he didn't explain why women aren't suited for combat.
At a given weight, women have about a third less upper body strength than men. In hand-to-hand fighting, they will lose. When troops in the open come under fire, they have to lie flat on the ground and dig themselves foxholes. Having less upper body strength means this will take longer for women.
