Matchbox Collectibles is honoring the Ford Mustang with the introduction of two 40th anniversary collections of die-cast models, beginning with the classic 1965 Mustang convertible and ranging to the 2005 Mustang GT concept. These detailed pieces of American culture are offered in 1:43-scale and 1:64-scale editions.
The larger, more detailed 1:43- scale collection includes a 1965 Convertible, 1967 GT Fastback and a 1970 Boss 302. Appropriate badging and striping, along with authentic-looking Goodyear Polyglas tires and Magnum 500 wheels, illustrate these models' impressive amount of detail. The interior of the 1965 Convertible sports a simulated wood steering wheel and chrome shifter. Some traditional features, such as the Boss's flat black shaker hood and deep chin spoiler, are not included, and the metal underbody of the 1967 GT is not near as intricate as the molded plastic underpinnings of some of the other models. These 1:43-scale ponies cost about $9 apiece.
