MusicGoals by Eye and Ear and MusicGoals by Rhythm Version 1.5, by Gregory Roy Giese. Singing Electron (13901 Balsam Ln., Dayton, MN 55327), 2003. $79.95. Beginning to intermediate.
MusicGoals by Eye and Ear offers a unique visual format with drills in basic sight reading, ear training and theory. Exercises can be programmed specifically for strings or piano, with a fingerboard or piano keyboard view. After each exercise, students are shown their results and levels remaining.
The goal-oriented drill routines cover concepts, such as irate recognition, scales, key signatures and intervals--suitable for beginning through intermediate levels. There are three modes of operation from which to choose: goal, practice and custom. Goal mode is a preset routine of short drills in which progress is recorded. In Practice Mode, students may attempt drills at any level, but progress here is not recorded. Custom Mode allows deviation from the preset course. Customized routines can be created and saved in advance for each student user.
