What went on at Shelby American during development of the Series 1 was as crazy as we feared.
The financial model for the car was both brilliant and inane: Series 1 buyers would finance the company and parts suppliers would do the development. In hindsight, that was like sewing together your parachute after you'd left the airplane. As Davison says in the preface, "Even some things that couldn't have gone wrong went wrong.'' Which was a nightmare if you were in on it, but highly entertaining if you're just reading about it now.
