Said, Earnhardt team up in a Vette
Driver Boris Said will join Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a Chevrolet Corvette C5-R at the Sears Point American Le Mans Series race July 18. Earnhardt signed to drive a third Corvette for the series' fourth round, though plans for him to team up with Tony Stewart have fallen through. GM motorsports boss Doug Duchardt said, "This is good for the ALMS and good for our program. This will bring new attention to the Corvette race program because Dale Jr. is the rock star of NASCAR. Boris is a friend of Little E and has coached him in his road-course technique.''
Bio-ethanol at Le Mans?
A British-entered Porsche might run on bio-ethanol alternative fuel in the Le Mans 24 Hour this year. Sports car regular Ian Khan is look- ing at converting his 911 GT3-RS to the green fuel for his assault on the 24 Hour and the Le Mans Endurance Series. The move has been inspired by 13-time Le Mans competitor Thierry Perrier, who is joining forces with Vic Lee Racing to run the car at Le Mans and in the new Le Mans Endurance Series. Perrier ran Porsches power- ed by a mix of ethanol and petrol at Le Mans in 1980 and 1981.
Dick Barbour's Lambo
Lamborghini is joining the American Le Mans Series with longtime sports car racer and team owner Dick Barbour. Barbour has linked with wealthy Texan Tracy Krohn to form Krohn-Barbour Motorsport to run a pair of Murcielago R-GTs in the series' remaining eight rounds.
