2004 APR 7 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- A Cranston, Rhode Island, doctor has been found guilty of product tampering and altering drugs for diluting vaccines he administered to his immigrant patients.
A United States federal jury on March 17, 2004, also found Wallace Gonsalves, 62, guilty of falsifying vaccine and lab test reports submitted to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and of evading income taxes.
U.S. District Judge Ronald Lagueux ordered that Gonsalves be held in federal custody, pending sentencing, which is scheduled for June 2.
Prosecutors said Gonsalves, whose practice included examining and vaccinating immigrants, diluted vaccines that were administered to them for measles, mumps, rubella, and for chicken pox.
They also said the doctor directed his staff to falsify reports to the INS about the vaccines and tests for HIV and syphilis.
