The Nasdaq composite fell just 0.3% Wednesday on slightly heavier trading. It was enough for the index's second straight monthly loss. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 pulled back 0.5%. Still, a handful of leaders rose or extended their recent gains.
QLogic gapped down 9.69 to a 52-week low of 33 on its biggest volume in over a year, as more than 33.9 million shares changed hands. The maker of storage network gear expects fiscal fourth-quarter sales of $128 million, below its earlier forecast of $138 million-$141 million. It blamed a drop in orders from two clients for host bus adapters.
Usana Health Sciences sank 2.67, or 10%, to a six-month low of 23.33 on nearly five times average trade. The maker of nutritional, personal care and weight management products said late Tuesday it sees first-quarter profit of 29 cents a share, 2 cents below its prior views. It cited the opening of the Mexico market and higher costs among reasons for the fall.
