Forgetting The Gravity Of War
After reading "Fight It Forward" (Editorial, Monday), I was happy to see that someone with a predominantly conservative voice was finally willing to expose the sense of complacency that just about everyone involved in the 9-11 hearings displayed.
Although the author of the editorial didn't miss a chance to take a swipe at the Democrats while taking both parties to task for partisanship, he did stick to the most important point, which is that we are still at war.
As I watched the parade of characters pass the committee, I was disturbed by the lack of seriousness they showed. The mood was often light, and there were far too many one-liners by members of both parties. To compound matters, President Bush makes a joke of not being able to find WMD.
War is not a game and is not something to be taken lightly. When our citizens die in a terror attack on our own shores, and when our soldiers die while avenging them, we all have a duty to honor their memory with the utmost respect. Sadly, respect took a vacation last week.
