A unique alliance is being formed between demolition contractors and manufacturers of long reach machines to produce special safety guidelines. John d'Arcy reports.

Long reach machines with their accompanying range of attachments have proved to be one of the most significant advances in demolition technology and site productivity in recent years. Now, in what is thought to be a unique alliance, manufacturers and contractors are joining together to draw up special guidelines on the safe use of this plant and to produce a dedicated safety training video for operators. In the first instance, the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) has mailed a questionnaire to machine operators from across its membership to draw feedback…
