Acupuncture is considered a form of treatment or therapy. However, acupuncture practitioners believe that acupuncture may be most successful when it is applied as an early intervention for symptoms or conditions. It may be that acupuncture can prevent some symptoms and conditions from becoming worse or chronic. More research is needed to define the preventive value of acupuncture.
