2004 APR 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Sonography accurately detects a case of choledochal cyst before birth.
According to recent research from the United States, "few cases of biliary tract anomalies characterized by the association of an annular pancreas and a choledochal cyst have been reported.(1-3)"
"Sometimes the duodenal stenosis has been diagnosed on the basis of antenatal sonography, but the diagnosis of the associated choledochal cyst has always been made after birth.(1-5) We present a case in which an accurate prenatal diagnosis was made on the basis of prenatal sonography," wrote A. Martin-Hirsel and colleagues, Washoe Pregnancy Center, Reno, Nevada.
"The choledochal cyst was observed at 26 weeks, and at 30 weeks the 'double-bubble' sign was found, signifying a duodenal obstruction."
