2004 MAR 31 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Generex Biotechnology Corp. (GNBT) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Antigen Express, is working to develop a diagnostic kit for the early detection and screening of type 1 diabetes in young children.
The company will shortly begin in vitro studies aimed at identifying the immune mechanisms leading to the destruction of the insulin producing cells of the pancreas and onset of type 1 diabetes. Antigen Express will partner for these studies with two leading European diabetes centers, the University Campus Medico in Rome, Italy and St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London, England.
The studies will focus on the role that Lymphocytes (T-cells) play in a series of pancreatic antigens, the most common of which are glutamic acid decarboxylase, tyrosine phosphatase, and insulin. These antigens have previously been measured by a number of investigators, but the ...
