MINNEAPOLIS -- Long-term risedronate therapy appears to preserve bone quality, according to the findings of a small, industry-sponsored study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
Together with previously published evidence of enhanced bone mineral density following risedronate therapy, such findings suggest that the bisphosphonate not only suppresses the activity of osteoclasts but does so without interfering with the activity of osteoblasts, according to Eleftherios Paschalis, Ph.D., of the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, and Roger J. Phipps, Ph.D., of Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, Mason, Ohio.
