Russian diplomats in China warn that further delays in development of gas exports from the 1.9 trillion [m.sup.3] Kovykta field in east Siberia could prompt Beijing to look elsewhere for supplies.

"We have received signals from the Chinese authorities that, if Russia fails to take a decision on constructing a gas line to China soon, Beijing will focus on liquefied natural gas [LNG] supplies and building LNG terminals," a top Russian diplomat tells Argus in Beijing.

China is planning construction of two LNG import terminals, and considering a third. BP is due to build the first near the southern coastal city of Guangdong, although commercial operations are not …
