AutoWeek's Fast Five: Ian Callum With both the Aston Martin DB7 and DB9 listed under his "significant achievements,'' Ian Callum has a resume that most car designers would envy. Now he is Jaguar's director of design, determined to take the brand in bold new directions.
AW: You've been quoted as saying you want to make Jaguar "more revolutionary.'' True?
Callum: Jaguar was always a revolutionary car company, through the '50s and '60s and before. And yes, maybe it was asleep for a while-it didn't move on as quickly as perhaps it should have. But now we have got to move on as quickly as we can. We have a lot of catching up to do, and we're going to do it quickly.
AW: What should we watch for?
Callum: In the next generation of Jaguars, you'll see quite a pronounced change in how we approach the heritage.
AW: Will we see Jaguars that present as big a challenge to our preconceptions as Chris Bangle's BMWs have?
