Running was a pain for Hudson resident Katrina Mullen.
"I never considered myself to be a runner," she says.
Nonetheless, Mullen, a stay-at-home mother, started running last year to get in shape. But hip and ankle pain kept her from enjoying the sport.
In September, she met Vince Rucci, who owns Hudson-based Vertical Runner, a small running goods store. Rucci, 27, listened to Mullen's running history and examined the wear patterns on her running shoes. Then, to Mullen's surprise, he refused to sell her the shoes she had selected.
