Spectacor Management Group (SMG) officially received the keys to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center on August 1, 1991, four months ahead of schedule

After almost two years of construction, the $48.9 million Convention Center was turned over to its owner, Broward County, who in turn passed the "baton" to SMG to manage day to day operations. Spectacor is a Philadelphia-based company specializing in public-assembly facility management.
