The Spot-12-Stop convenience store in North Birmingham, Alabama, had been robbed four times and burglarized on six occasions since late 2002 when yet another would-be robber entered the establishment at around 11 p.m. on November 22, 2003. The criminal may have thought the place an easy mark, but store owner Tina Brown had begun keeping a gun on the premises--in her words, "Enough's enough!"
The young thug, Demarcus Daniels, pointed a gun at the female cashier, began cussing and yelling at her, and demanded money. According to Brown, Daniels told the employee that "it was no joke" and threatened to shoot her.
