Power laws in networks.

A networked world only increases our perceptions of being surrounded by complexity and chaos. However, science shows us that many of the things that appear so complex can be explained by what are known as power laws, for example, the number of earthquakes that release energy E is simply 1/E². These same power laws also explain complex phenomena in business, for example, the number of companies with sales of S is 1/S². In other words, firms with sales of $1 mill are four times as numerous as firms with sales of $2 mill, of which there are four times as many as firms with sales of $4 mill.
