2004 GMC Canyon Crew Cab SLE Z71
Date in fleet: Feb. 18-23 As-tested price: $30,385 Powertrain: 3.5-liter I5; 4wd, four-speed automatic Output: 220 hp @ 5600 rpm, 225 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm Curb weight: 4093 pounds
BLAHNIK: I was excited to get into this truck. I'm a big fan of small, four-door trucks. There's nothing better than truly having plenty of room for people and gear such as bikes.
This truck looks good, if boxy, but lately that seems to be the trend. As for the interior, it's simple but nice. Front seats are comfortable, but you can forget the back ones: They are so straight up and down that if I had to spend a substantial amount of time in them my back wouldn't make it. On the other hand, there is plenty of legroom in the passenger seats, perhaps more than in a Ford Explorer SportTrac.
The suspension feels a tad stiff, too, truly trucky-which I like. I can't help but think this would be a fun truck in which to go mudding.
