Eight years ago we began to publish this newsletter. Volume 1, No. 1 of the four-page Society News featured a story on one of our research grantees, spotlighted Jazzercise for its major fund-raising support, and reported that E. Donnall Thomas, M.D., had recently received the Society's highest honor--the Robert Roesler de Villiers Award.
Lynna M. Lesko, M.D., Ph.D., was the research grantee profiled in that issue. She is still closely associated with the Society, serving on several national committees and assisting new researchers. Jazzercise is still providing strong financial support (their events have contributed nearly $4 million since 1982). And, Dr. Thomas, a 1990 Nobel Prize winner in medicine, is still a Society leader in our Washington State Chapter.
