While JK Rowling is clearly the creator of Harry Potter, there is a new trend causing some concern among those involved with intellectual property. The Internet has seen a wave of Fan Fiction, the proliferation of novels, novellas or poetry written by fans, but based on someone else's characters, eg, Harry Potter. In many cases, JK Rowling has let them stand, but sites that use the characters in violent or sexual acts have been told to "cease and desist". A similar trend is seen in music, where composers engage in "mashups", where they literally mash songs together, and in film, where fans change their digital copies to delete characters or to change storylines.
