If anyone still believes that the majority of Internet users are geeks, a Californian study of surfers in 14 countries suggests quite the opposite. The typical Net user is an avid reader, socialises more than non-Net users, and may watch up to five hours less TV. The Chinese are the most social, and use the Net primarily to share political interests, hobbies and faith. Some trends are already established, such as the most avid users being the most wealthy, or men being keener on cybersurfing than women (except Taiwan where there is little gender gap).
