Utah House passes resolution to get the U.S. out of the UN.(Insider Report)
The Utah House of Representatives passed a joint resolution on February 2 urging Congress to consider withdrawing U.S. membership from the United Nations. The passage of H.J.R. 3 by a vote of 42 to 33 was a personal victory for the resolution's sponsor, Rep. Don Bush, a Republican from Clearfield. Representativc Bush had introduced a similar resolution in last year's legislative session, only to see the measure die without coming up for a vote. This year the resolution received bipartisan support (two Democrats voted for it) and was passed 19 days after being introduced. It will next be considered by the state Senate. where it was introduced by Senator David Thomas.
The passage of H.J.R. 3 is also the story of long and persistent grass-roots activism by members of Utah's three Get US out of the United Nations Committees, affiliates of the John Birch Society.
