To judge from the tone of much of the commentary in the establishment press, the Bush administration and the Republican congressional leadership are a claque of right-wing ideologues, whose stridency and militancy have left American politics hopelessly polarized. But according to the January 20 Washington Times, "Republicans in Congress have shifted dramatically to the left" during the Bush presidency, while "Democrats ... have moved significantly rightward."
