Sports Authority hasn't touched its 50-day moving average since mid-January as the stock weathers a choppy market. It has added a five-week handle to its base after its Jan. 26 push to new highs failed. It marked the bottom of its pattern with a powerful reversal week.
The No. 1 U.S. sporting goods retailer has grown annual profit every year since 1999, with 12% and 26% increases seen the next two years. Quarterly results have been choppier. Earnings growth of 4% in the July-ending quarter was followed by 55% growth last quarter and an estimated 3% in the current quarter.
