The Federal Reserve Bully

After reading "Getting Personal" (Editorial, Thursday) on Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's comments about Social Security, I am thoroughly appalled at him for going after baby boomers' Social Security benefits. Why doesn't he insist Congress stop paying aid to foreign nations to appease them and passing pork-barrel programs that are a total waste of our tax dollars? Why doesn't Greenspan argue with Congress over bringing good jobs back to America (more tax revenues) instead of letting them go to foreign nations (no tax dollars for the U.S.)?

Greenspan should retire. He always goes after the defenseless people, like some bully attacking a little old lady.

Rod Cozad, San Diego

Cultural Anarchy . . .

In response to the same-sex marriage lobby, which has historically been closely aligned with those who wish to cede ever greater power to the federal government, but which has now found enlightened self-interest in "states' rights," perhaps President Bush should consider recommending a constitutional amendment expressly excluding application of the Constitution's "full faith and credit" clause to gay marriage.

It is doubtful that such an amendment would satisfy those pushing for same-sex marriage, but at least the president, who, as noted in "Judicial Boomerang" (Editorial, Thursday), is backing a marriage-defining amendment, could offer a sensible compromise and expose same-sex marriage activists as the cultural anarchists they are, as well as their contempt for the rest of American society.
