ISM Index Signals Factory Hiring
1The key manufacturing gauge fell to 61.4 in Feb. from Jan.'s 20-year high of 63.6. That's the 9th straight month over the boom-bust 50 mark and the 4th above 60. The jobs subindex jumped to 56.3, the highest since Dec. '87. Factories have been cutting jobs each month for years. Stocks Climb In Lower Volume
2 The Nasdaq climbed 1.4%, closing right at its high for the day. The small-cap S&P 600 also closed at its intraday high, and a 52-week high, up 1.7%. The S&P 500 rose 1%, the Dow 0.9%. Ohio, Fla. Won't Back Disney CEO
3The state public pension funds won't vote to re-elect Michael Eisner as chairman and CEO, saying they want the two roles separated. Disney's annual shareholder meeting is Wednesday; ex-directors Roy Disney and Stanley Gold will hold a dissidents' meeting Tuesday. Over 30% of Disney holders won't vote for Eisner.
